atrocity 根据 Merriam Webster (韦氏词典),意思是a very cruel or terrible act or action.
例:
The atrocities of war
Who could be capable of such atrocity?
而tyranny 则是 cruel and unfair treatment by people with power over others 即被"欺压"之意
例:
living under the tyranny of the clock
He was dedicated to ending the tyranny of slavery.
Simba is the main protagonist of the Disney animated classic The Lion King (1994). He is a lion, and the heir to the throne of the Pride Lands. His father, King Mufasa, was killed in a wildebeest stampede by his evil uncle, Scar. After that, Simba ran away and got lost in the desert. Timon the mongoose meerkat and Pumbaa the warthog found him, nursed him back to health and let him live with them. They taught him the philosophy of "Hakuna Matata": which means "no worries". However, his girlfriend, Nala, found him and told him that Scar had taken over the Pride Lands and the animals were starving. Simba at first was afraid of Scar, but one night the ghost of his father, Mufasa, appeared in the night sky and gave him confidence. With his confidence restored, Simba returned to the Pride Lands. He fought Scar, who tried to save himself by blaming his henchmen, the Hyenas. In the end, Simba banished him from the kingdom and the Hyenas, who overheard Scar placing the blame on them, ate him alive. Simba reclaimed his place as king of the Pride Lands, with Nala as his queen.
